This SOP details basic safe work practices to follow when working with sodium azide. Sodium azide and azide compounds pose both physical hazards (e.g. shock sensitive and potentially explosive) and a variety of health hazards. As such, it is important to review the compound specific SDS sheet to determine possible adverse health outcomes. Research activities that pose an exposure risk as well as guidelines for mitigation are described in the above SOP.
