Robert Laford, Assistant Director of Emergency Management and Business Continuity with Environmental Health and Safety’s Office of Emergency Management was named one of the 2017 recipients of the UMass Chancellor’s Citation.
A nineteen year member of the campus community, Bob was nominated in recognition for his work across campus in emergency planning and preparedness activities. Included in the nomination were highlights about his work with UMass Emergency Medical Services (UMEMS) and the campus Emergency Medical Technicians, the amount of training he has lead in EMT training, occupational safety and general safety topics, and his work partnering with departments for the placement of defibrillators (AEDs) around campus. 2017 is Bob’s 30th year as a CPR instructor and records show that he has taught nearly 4,000 people in CPR/First Aid in that time.
With over 30 years’ experience in public safety as a firefighter, EMT, and instructor, Bob’s skills and background were noted as a great asset to the University and the Office of Emergency Management and its planning partners.
