Shared Lab Spaces: To help navigate the unique challenges of sharing, UMass Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) in conjunction with the Institutional Chemical Safety Committee (ICSC) has developed these guidelines to help ensure safe, secure, and efficient conduct of operations in shared lab spaces and with shared equipment. The guidelines are available through SciShield: https://umass.scishield.com/raft/document/b13dad39-8fe4-4741-b3b4-4a4f0e...
This process generally applies to research and teaching laboratories, analytical facilities, studios, shops and other spaces for which the UMass Chemical Hygiene Plan (https://umass.scishield.com/raft/document/b70e26a8-d61f-4c01-8752-9696f7...) applies. The term laboratory is meant to be inclusive of all the above named spaces in the following. This process specifically applies to locations that are shared in some manner (see classifications and characteristics in the policy below) and in which hazardous materials are stored or handled.
