Maryanne Steele, EH&S Officer for Construction Safety at UMass Amherst was recently recognized by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) with the 2017 Safety and Health Professional of the Year award at the OSHA Summer Summit, a safety conference held on campus each year. Over regional 500 safety professionals were on hand when Ms. Steele received this honor that is in recognition of her "tireless efforts and dedication in support of a safe and health workplace for the workers of New England."
Presenting the award was Jeffrey Erskine, Deputy Regional Administrator for OSHA Region 1.
Maryanne represents UMass and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) in her role on the steering commitee for the annual OSHA Sumemr Summit. She serves on the steering committee for the Western Massachusetts OSHA Alliance and is the President-elect of Connecticut Valley Chapter of the ASSE. A native of western Massachusetts, prior to coming to campus 2006, Ms. Steele was an Environmental Health and Safety Manager with Electric Boat in Windsor, CT.
