This standard operating procedure covers the engineering controls, personal protective equipment, safe work practices, proper waste disposal methods, and emergency procedures for exposure to HF or other fluoride generating materials or processes. This SOP is somewhat generic and may not cover the specific procedures needed for use in your laboratory. Each PI must also submit a prior approval request to the Institutional Chemical Safety Committee (see the Lab Safety Manual/Chemical Hygiene Plan LHSM_CHP_2015.pdf) for each specific procedure and listing the appropriate safeguards required whenever HF is handled or generated.
