EH&S recently helped to welcome some REU (Research Experience for Undergraduate) students to campus with a hands-on overview of lab safety for UMass labs. The REU students come from UMass and other institutions to do exciting research over the summer in our labs. The hands-on overview enables students to see how to properly use fume hoods, how to safely store chemicals, how to use eyewashes and drench showers, and more. This overview is a great supplement to the in-depth lab safety training provided through SciShield. If you have new folks coming to your lab, or if you are running a summer program for the labs, and you are interested in scheduling a hands-on overview of lab and building safety items, please reach out to us at askehs@umass.edu. We are happy to help!
