The purpose of these guidelines is to establish the procedures used by UMass personnel and contractors for entry into confined spaces. This document provides the written Confined Space Program as required in 29 CFR §1910.146 (General Industry) and 29 CFR §1926.1200 (Construction Industry) of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations. This program is intended to protect the health and safety of all UMass employees, contractors, subcontractors, and guests. These guidelines in no way replace the need for contractors to have their own written program or their responsibility to comply with OSHA regulations.
